With Marvel approaching its biggest crossover event, fans are intrigued about Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow and other OG Avengers returning to the MCU. Will Black Widow be back? When can she return? Here’s all you need to know.
Will Scarlett Johansson return as Black Widow?
Scarlett Johansson’s return as Black Widow isn’t confirmed yet, but it could happen in Avengers: Secret Wars.
At the time of writing, Scarlett Johansson is only confirmed to be producing a future Marvel project, but won’t be starring in it. Her character died in Avengers: Endgame and got to be back in a prequel movie in Phase 4. But beyond that, her return hasn’t been announced yet.
Kevin Feige was recently asked about the return of Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson at The Marvels premiere. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, he replied:
“We did not discuss that at the retreat, is the truth. We’re doing a project with Scarlett. I love Robert, he’s a part of the family. But in terms of returning, we’ll have to see.”
It’ll be interesting to see which project Scarlett Johansson is producing. But it’s also worth noting that while Feige did not agree to Johansson’s return, he didn’t deny it either. Looking at the upcoming MCU projects, no movie or TV show warrants a comeback from her before Avengers: Secret Wars.
When will Black Widow come back?
If it happens, Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, could only return in Avengers: Secret Wars.
Secret Wars is expected to be the biggest crossover event with all the OG Avengers possibly reuniting alongside ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool, Wolverine, multiple Spider-Men, and the New Avengers. So, a variant of Natasha Romanoff could be brought back using the multiverse to unite with others in an even bigger “Portals Sequence” than Avengers: Endgame. But nothing is set in stone yet.
