Hollywood superstar Margot Robbie is set to collect a whopping $77million from her mega-hit Barbie movie

The talented and famous Margot Robbie is going to receive a staggering $77 million for her upcoming blockbuster movie, Barbie.

So far the smash hit comedy, based on the famed Mattel doll, has raked in an astonishing AU$1.848billion (US$1.18billion) at the box office globally

The Barbie movie, which has become a huge success, has earned an incredible AU$1.848 billion (US$1.18 billion) at the global box office. The film’s success is due to its unique female-led energy, which was unexpected by the studios when they first began developing the movie. Although talks about a Barbie movie had been ongoing since 2009, it wasn’t until 2019 when Margot Robbie and her production company, Lucky Chap Entertainment, teamed up with Warner Bros. and enlisted the help of writer-director Greta Gerwig that the project finally took off. Gerwig, known for her work on indie films like Greenberg (2009) and Frances Ha (2012), co-wrote these films with her partner Noah Baumbach. Her subsequent films Lady Bird (2017), and Little Women (2019), have garnered her Oscar nominations.

It was Robbie who not only produced the film, but also hired the talented Greta Gerwig, best known for Little Women

Robbie played a significant role in the production of the movie, not only by being the producer but also by recruiting the gifted Greta Gerwig, who is famously recognized for her work on Little Women.

Barbie's quirky female-led energy, which helped to make it a popular phenomenon, is a far cry from what the studios originally thought they would get from a Barbie movie

Barbie’s unique and empowering female energy, which contributed to its immense popularity, was not what the studios had initially expected for the movie. Margot Robbie, who co-wrote Barbie with Baumbach and Gerwig, had the freedom to cast anyone for the titular role, but when asked, Gerwig chose Robbie herself. In an interview with Collider, Robbie shared that she convinced executives to give the green light to the project by pointing out that when big ideas are matched with visionary directors, success follows. According to a recent report by Variety, Barbie is the second highest grossing film in Warner Bros.’ history, just behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, and is also the highest-grossing film directed by a woman.
