Margot Robbie gives thumbs up to Lady Gaga’s casting as Harley Quinn in Joker sequel: ‘Can’t wait to see her take on the character!’

During an interview with MTV News, Margot Robbie expressed her excitement over Lady Gaga’s casting as Harley Quinn for the upcoming DC Comics movie, Joker: Folie a Deux. The 32-year-old actress, who previously played the supervillain in Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn), shared her approval of the 36-year-old hitmaker taking up the mantle of the character. Robbie’s positive comments about Gaga’s casting were shared on Thursday.

During an interview with MTV News, the Birds of Prey actor shared that she was excited to see another actress bring their own interpretation to the beloved character. Robbie also noted that she had been fortunate to play historical figures, such as Queen Elizabeth I in Mary Queen of Scots, a role previously portrayed by Cate Blanchett. She hopes that Harley Quinn will become one of those iconic characters that are passed from talented actor to talented actor, much like Macbeth or Batman.

Robbie’s debut as Harley Quinn was in Suicide Squad in 2016, where she was highly praised for her portrayal. She later reprised the role in Birds of Prey in 2020 and The Suicide Squad in 2021.

The original Joker movie, released in 2019, was highly acclaimed by critics. Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of the character earned him the Best Actor award at the Academy Awards. Previous actors who played the Joker, such as Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson, also won the same award. A sequel to the successful movie was announced last year, with both Phoenix and director Todd Phillips set to return for the project.

The movie, titled Joker: Folie A Deux, is set to hit theaters on October 4, 2024.
