Actress Francia Raísa said that before reconciling this year, she and Selena had been on and off for six years, with the worst being last year.
“We haven’t talked much in six years. Especially last year, we didn’t talk to each other at all,” Francia Raísa told USA Today on December 28.
Selena Gomez and Francia Raísa have had a friendship with many ups and downs.
The How I Met Your Father actress said that it wasn’t until this summer that they reconnected: “I don’t know why things happened that way, but in June when I was in St. Tropez, I couldn’t stop thinking about her… I don’t know why the universe decided this time. Then she took the initiative to connect with me.”
In July, Selena posted a photo on Instagram wishing Francia Raísa a happy 35th birthday, expressing her deep affection for her old friend. That’s when the two girls decided to reconcile. A month later, Selena and Francia went out to dinner together for the first time in years in Santa Monica, California. That night, they both posted photos of their outing on Instagram, affirming that there was no conflict, just friendship.

Francia Raísa confirmed in the interview: “We never really hated each other. Nothing terrible ever happened. We don’t know why but maybe we both needed time apart. Then, when we came back together, we were both better.”
Selena Gomez and Francia Raísa were close friends for years before Francia donated a kidney to save Selena in 2017. However, after the surgery, the two actresses were not as close as before. There were rumors that Francia was angry at Selena for drinking, partying, and not taking care of her health. Last year, things got worse when Selena accidentally said in an interview with Rolling Stone that her “only close friend in the industry” was Taylor Swift. This upset Francia Raísa, who unfollowed Selena on Instagram.
In August, after rekindling their friendship, Francia Raísa told Us Weekly that she still loved Selena and never regretted donating a kidney to her friend. On the Good Guys podcast , Francia also denied rumors that she was pressured into donating. “I knew in my heart that I was a match. I knew it was going to happen. Nobody forced me to do anything. It came from the true goodness of my heart and I’ve been blessed so much since then,” the actress said.
Francia experienced many complications after donating her kidney but she says she has no regrets about her decision.
