Manchester United have hinted that Lisandro Martinez could soon be returning to the pitch for the Reds after Leny Yoro suffered an injury on the pre-season tour.

Martinez has been handed extended leave by the Reds after he represented Argentina at the Copa America this summer. His country continued their dominance in South America as they beat Colombia 1-0 after extra-time to win the tournament.

The 26-year-old was a starter for his country in that final and played an integral role throughout the competition. As such, Martinez was not picked for the squad which is currently touring the United States of America.

However, United’s official social media account has hinted that the defender could soon be representing his domestic team again and not a moment too soon. In a tweet, the Reds shared an image of Martinez on their channel posing in the new training kit after undertaking a session in Ibiza.

While it is not expected that Martinez will join his teammates across the pond for their tour, it will be pleasing for supporters to see the defender in good spirits especially considering their new centre-back suffered an injury concern this weekend. In the early hours of Sunday morning, Leny Yoro was forced off before the halfway point after picking up a difficulty against Arsenal.

After the match, Erik ten Hag was unable to disclose how long the Frenchman would be sidelined for but admitted that it was ‘very disappointing’ to see him forced off after United had been careful with him this week so as not to aggravate an issue. United are expected to return to England in just over a week’s time to prepare for the Community Shield against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.
