Andre Onana delivers Leny Yoro verdict after £52m star’s Man Utd bow in Rangers friendly

Leny Yoro made his Manchester United debut against Rangers as the weekend and goalkeeper Andre Onana has no doubts that the Frenchman will be a successful signing for the club

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana was impressed with new signing Leny Yoro’s first performance for the club.

United signed the French teenager from Lille in a deal worth an initial £52million to beat Real Madrid in the race for his signature. Just days after completing his move to Old Trafford, Yoro completed 45 minutes against Rangers, at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.

The Red Devils managed a clean sheet in a 2-0 win against the Scottish side. Amad Diallo and Joe Hugill scored to earn United victory in their final friendly before heading to the United States.

Yoro put in a positive display to leave a good impression, playing in front of Onana. The former Ajax shotstopper has faith that the 18-year-old will quickly settle under Erik ten Hag.

Onana told Sky Sports: “When you have the opportunity to be a Manchester United player that’s when you have a lot of quality. He already showed this in the first half.

“Great guy, very young player. Good on the ball. We will enjoy him this season.

“He will. We are here to help him, no matter what is going on. Us as leaders, he’s a young player, we’re going to give him time

Manager Erik ten Hag of speaks to Leny Yoro ahead of the pre-season friendly match between Manchester United and Glasgow Rangers

“He’s going to be alright because we have very good scouts here, so if they made him come that means he has a lot of quality.”

Onana was the only United player to complete 90 minutes as he kept a clean sheet against Philippe Clement’s side. It has left the 28-year-old keen to continue with pre-season and to fight for success in 2024/25.

United next take on Arsenal, Real Betis and Liverpool as the club take to the United States. “It’s very exciting, not only for the coming games in pre-season but for the rest of this season,” he said.

“It’s going to be difficult but we are well prepared, we are preparing well this season and it’s going to be really nice.

“We are going to fight for everything this year, last season we already know what happened and of course we ended very good but it was a difficult season for all of us. So this year, nice things are coming.”
