The 21-year-old Greenwood joins Getafe on a season-long contract from a Premier League club in a sυrprising transfer.
Following an internal investigation, United recently announced its intention to release Greenwood from his contract.
In February, the Crown Prosecution Service decided to withdrаw the charges against Greenwood.
Greenwood’s contract was due to expire in 2025, so United’s decision to release him could have resulted in a settlement payment.
A loan to Getafe delays United’s decision on a financial arrangement, and Getafe will pay a portion of his salary.
“The move enables Greenwood to begin rebuilding his career away from Manchester United,” the Premier League club stated.
“The club will continue to offer Mason and his family assistance during this transitional period.”
This weekend, Getafe will travel across the Spanish capital to face Real Madrid, and Getafe head coach Jose Bordalas will be immediately questioned about the decision to sign Greenwood.
