Kevin Durant became the 11th-best scorer in NBA history last night with 31 points against the Blazers. Elvin Hayes is officially in the rearview mirror and the Top 10 is within reach for KD.
Kevin Durant was just 14 points short of overtaking Elvin Hayes, the former NBA legend who played for the Rockets and Bullets (now the Wizards). 14 points for a forward of KD’s caliber is the equivalent of a quarter of confidence.
That’s good, the Reaper only needed the first quarter to pass his illustrious elder, the time to plant 14 points at 100% shooting in ten minutes. The winger was then warmly applauded by the Suns’ public while the announcer announced KD’s move to eleventh place in the all-time scorers ranking. For the anecdote, here is the basket that allowed the winger to write history again.
After Hakeem Olajuwon , it’s Elvin Hayes’ turn to be ousted by Kevin Durant and he now has a royal road to join the Top 10. The late Moses Malone is only 78 points ahead. It’s a matter of 2-3 games max for the 2014 MVP. Carmelo Anthony still has a small safety net in 9th place but he will certainly be overtaken this season, just like Shaquille O’Neal (8th). To catch Wilt Chamberlain in 7th place (31,419), we will have to wait until next season on the other hand.
