Fresh from scoring two goals against Russia last night whilst wearing France’s iconic number 10 jersey, Kylian Mbappé has unveiled Virgil Abloh’s Nike Mercurial Superfly 360 football boot.
Mbappé also wears Abloh’s Off-White football shirt in the reveal, which comprises of a host of iconic football kit references.
Speaking about the boot, Abloh revealed some of the ideas he brought to the table when tasked with reimagining the Superfly.
“For this Mercurial, I was interested in bridging the gap between foot and eye coordination,” says Abloh. “All the dots on the boot represent an optimal place to strike the ball.”
Abloh, who played as a holding midfielder during his high school days, also explained the message he tried to convey in his silhouette, “Design is a powerful tool, as it communicates energy and a message, and it offers a unique capacity to make someone do a double take on-pitch — I feel like it would be intimidating to see this boot.”
The boots arrive in a custom box and feature Abloh’s trademark Off-White branding on the medial side, and will be worn by Mbappé when he plays for PSG this weekend. Check out the boots below.
