Durant, a long-time NBA veteran, focused on one of the stars of the Timberwolves after they completed the sweep.
Anthony Edwards has become a superstar over the course of this year and displayed his dominance against the Suns.
In the midst of that dominance was a poster dunk right on Durant’s head, and he had to let the media know how impressive it was.
“So impressed with Ant. My favorite player to watch,” Durant said.
“Just grown so much since he came into the league at 22, his love for the game shines bright. It’s one of the reasons I like him the most.
“He loves basketball, he’s grateful to be in this position, he’s taken advantage of every opportunity he’s gotten.
“Love everything about Ant, I’ll be watching him going forward. You know he’s going to go out there and play extremely hard every single night.
“I was really impressed with him, and he’s going to be someone I’m following for the rest of his career.”
Edwards put on a show during the opening round of the playoffs with three eye-popping performances of over 33 points in the four-game series.
Across the four games, Edwards combined for 124 points, 32 rebounds, and 25 assists. He also tallied eight steals.
The strong playoff numbers were just a continuation of his strong 2023/24 season, during which he averaged 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists on 46.1% shooting.
Edwards earned his second All Star selection in his four-year career this season and is likely on his way to many more.
The Timberwolves are moving on to the Conference Semifinals where they will take on the winner of the Nuggets–Lakers series.
Denver currently has a 3-1 lead over Los Angeles.
NBA PLAYOFFS OPENING ROUND RESULTS
The Timberwolves-Suns series is the only opening round matchup to be completed, thanks to the sweep.
However, series across the league could be coming to a close soon as multiple teams are at three wins against their opponents.
The Oklahoma City Thunder are currently up 3-0 against the New Orleans Pelicans and have a chance for the sweep on Monday night.
The Indiana Pacers are up 3-1 on the Milwaukee Bucks, and will fight to end the series on Tuesday night.
The New York Knicks will also look to close out their series on Tuesday as they hold a 3-1 lead over the Philadelphia 76ers.
Other tighter series include the Mavericks and Clippers at 2-2, the Cavaliers and Magic at 2-2, and the Celtics and Heat at 2-1.
Durant called Edwards his ‘favorite player’ and said he’s following his career
