Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes Marcus Rashford will continue to prove Jose Mourinho wrong after the young forward has already done so. Mourinho was accused of mistreating the English player throughout their time together, and he later cast doubt on Rashford’s potential to serve as the club’s star player.
Mourinho criticized Rashford’s goal-scoring ability on Sky Sports after he left Old Trafford in 2018. Rashford just scored 30 goals in a season for the first time in his career under Ten Hag, but the Portuguese manager said it was impossible.
When asked to evaluate Rashford’s skills in 2019, Mourinho remarked, “I am not going to sаy he cannot ever be a number nine.” If the opponent is not pragmatic, is not near, and is offering gaps to аttаck, he might be a dangerous number nine. In between states, he poses a significant threаt.
He is not the target man, and he doesn’t score as many goals as a striker should. “But when Manchester United plays teams who typically go to Old Trafford, close the door, and bring the bus, b “He is not the target man, and he doesn’t score as many goals as a striker should. If you play him off to the side, I predict he will score 10–12 goals per season. I don’t think he can score 30 goals a year as a number nine. As a target man, I don’t see how he could improve. He has a hard time improving as a target man.
Since Ronaldo’s departure, Rashford has regularly started up top, and last year he broke Mourinho’s record for goals in a season with 30. The 25-year-old’s incredible performances won him a lucrative new deal, and Ten Hag has since predicted that he will continue proving the now-Roma manager incorrect by going even farther this season.
Ten Hag remarked, “For every player, it’s about raising the bar,” before United’s 1-0 win over Wolves on Monday. That also applies to Rashford.
There’s room for improvement in his pressuring, and he might even increase his goal output. Last year, he tallied 30 goals, 17 of which came in the Premier League. Across the board, in every tournament, not just the league.
As Raphael Varane scored the only goal in a lackluster 1-0 win over Wolves, Rashford and the rest of the England squad will be hoping for a much better showing in their next match, a road match against Tottenham on Saturday.
