Rasmus Hojlund, who joined Manchester United from Atalanta in a “surreal” trade, has vowed to channel Cristiano Ronaldo’s “best in the world” mentality.
Hojlund promises to emulate Ronaldo’s mentality.
Striker wants to succeed at Manchester United.
Dane left Atalanta for a fee of £72 million ($92 million).
WHAT OCCURED? Hojlund signed a five-year contract with United after joining from Atalanta for £72 million ($92 million). He was presented at Old Trafford on Sunday, prior to United’s 3-1 victory over Lens of France. He has now spoken about being motivated by former Manchester United great Ronaldo and his objectives for his new squad.
WHAT THEY SAID: When asked if he respected the Portugal international – who scored 145 goals in 346 appearances for the Premier League giants – for his qualities as a player or his mindset, he told United’s website: “I think both.” Certainly his thinking as well. He had a difficult life, but he persevered because he want to be the best. He even made it public very early on. I believe there was an interview with Anderson, Ferdinand, and Ronaldo in which they asked, “Who is the best football player in the world?” and he simply said, “Me.” This mindset appeals to me. He just stated his desire to be the best, which is the same mindset I strive for. “I’m striving to be the best version of myself.”
“It’s a little surrealistic, there are a lot of stars, but yeah, I’m part of that team now,” Hojlund said after joining the club. I understand they’re only people, and I’m excited to get back on the field with the other guys.”
THE BIG PICTURE: Hojlund will be tasked with producing the goals that will allow United to compete on all fronts next season. He is the club’s third big-money summer signing, following Mason Mount from Chelsea for £55 million ($70 million) and Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana for £47 million ($60 million).
