Selena Gomez is not one to dress according to someone else’s unwritten fashion rule book.
After touching down in Cannes in a stunning white peplum cardigan and skirt set by Self-Portrait—which she paired with Roger Vivier kitten heels and Etnia Barcelona sunglasses—Gomez continued to bring the glamour in her second look for the prestigious film festival. Later in the evening on May 17, Gomez changed into a figure-hugging navy dress that ignored boring style conventions with a dramatic black bust and petal-like sleeve details, bringing the look together with yet another pair of black heels.
Though Selena Gomez certainly brought the drama in black-and-navy Oscar de la Renta, the look’s quarter-length sleeves and calf-length hemline could lean a bit mature for the 31-year-old pop star. Instead, Gomez lightened up the nearly demure ensemble by keeping her hair down in loose, unfussy waves and throwing on a handful of modern sparkling rings. The classic red lip was not a bad touch, either.
While it’s been a long time since anyone would strongly denounce pairing black with blue, this is far from the first time Gomez has effortlessly embraced a so-called fashion faux pas. Whether she’s wearing black to a wedding or ignoring the rules of proportion, Gomez simply doesn’t appear to be bothered by out-of-date customs when it comes to dressing.
All of this is to say, we can’t wait to see what else Selena Gomez has up her sleeve as she continues to celebrate her upcoming film Emilia Perez at the Cannes Film Festival. For more Cannes looks, check out Glamour’s complete red carpet coverage here.
