Reports from GFFN indicate that Lorient have been made an offer for Donny van de Beek. The £36 million player is free to explore other options, and Manchester United is willing to let him go, although he may not end up joining the French club.
Since signing with Manchester United, Donny van de Beek’s stock has plummeted. The £36 million playmaker’s absence from the lineup in the two years since his arrival from Ajax can be attributed to either a decline in performance or health issues.
During his tenure at Manchester United, he also had a poor loan stint, but that didn’t appear to assist his play. The Red Devils are relieved to be rid of Van de Beek, who they no longer see as having a future with the club. He is also free to sign with his previous club, Ajax.
They are even willing to negotiate a loan arrangement with Real Sociedad in order to sign the Dutchman. There were also rumors that he would be joining Genoa, but GFFN now claims Manchester United has agreed to let Lorient borrow him on loan from the French First Division.
Although there is some uncertainty as to whether or not Van de Beek wants the move, it demonstrates that Manchester United are willing to get rid of the £36 million playmaker as soon as possible. The Red Devils have turned down an offer from Sociedad, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, but the Dutchman has not yet made contact with either Lorient or Genoa.
So, even if the stories about Manchester United accepting an offer from Lorient are true, the transfer may not happen after all. In order to make room for new players, the Red Devils have initiated negotiations with Fiorentina to acquire Sofyan Amrabat.
Since Van de Beek may not sign with either Lorient or Genoa, he can now consider other offers being made to him. If he is unable to switch sides during this window, he may view a transfer to the French team as a demotion from his existing position and want to assert himself by force.
There is still a chance that the Dutch player will take a loan to another club, possibly even one in England.
